Tenth Anniversary!

By Paul | May 7, 2013

Ten-plus years ago, a strapping young editor at Universal Press Syndicate named John Glynn (who is still young, and possibly still strapping, I’m not a good judge of strapping) contacted me about making Pooch a part of the Universal Press Syndicate catalogue of excellence.  I was immediately taken with John, and the name of the syndicate, which bespoke lofty territorial ambitions.   The union has been rewarding in every way, as both John and the syndicate are, to quote James L. Brooks, as good as it gets.  (Sorry, this was going well, I didn’t mean to make everyone think of Helen Hunt).

In honor of the 10-year anniversary, Universal is giving away some signed Pooch prints.  Simply click here and visit the GoComics website to enter for a chance to win one.

Thanks to all my readers, new and longterm, for being such loyal fans of Poncho and his buds.  I raise a bowl of water to you.

Paul, congatulations on ten years. That is like, 70 dog years! Where does the time go?
P.S. You could have done a Sally Fields: 10 years, ‘you love me, you really love me.’

When I love something lots and lots I sometimes get the worse-case-scenario fever and instead of being able to enjoy that Pooch Cafe’ brightens my everyday, I worry that Paul is going to stop doing the strip one day and I will be like a fish (or Fish) on dry land.

While I want to enjoy this moment, my neurosis has taken over and I’m having abandonment issues!

    HALP!!!

Congrats, Paul. What would we do without you and your little group of friends everyday?

I know what you mean Lulu, exactly.

Didn’t the first-ever strip run in 2000? Or was it 2001?

I would LOVE to have a book of EVERY strip since the beginning! I have all three of the books, and many originals, and two plush Ponchos, but I really would like a book/books of EVERY SINGLE ONE.

I am counting on Paul being extremely famous for not only Pooch Cafe, but something else, so that one day all of my originals will be worth millions and I can retire to Tahiti! LOL.

Thank you Paul, for bringing so much joy to our lives. Not only through the strip, but your appreciation of us fans, and all of the fun times I’ve had simply because I’ve had plush Poncho with me in so many places, from Mexico to Pennsylvania to England!

I’d be nothing without my fans, of which you three are the tops. With the growth of ebooks it seems more certain that one day the entire Pooch run should be available in some form, and before that I’ll probably put out at least another book through Amazon. I’m hoping color becomes more cost effective, as I’d love to do a book of Sundays.

Sundays in black and white would be just fine!

Dogs can’t see in color like humans anyway!

Make it scratch and sniff instead. Woof!

Or make it a coloring book and we can color ourselves!!

Congrats on the tenth anniversary, Paul! Thanks for making me lmao every day. (Not very eloquently put, I know, but true.)
